How important is it to upgrade to the latest version of Wordpress? And would I have to do it all manually or do you offer an easier way? I also see that most of my plugins have newer versions available.

Thanks for any info.

I asked this question by support ticket some time ago.

The answer was don't. The later versions have to be tested with
the software to make sure that everything works properly and
it would appear that some third party plugins can cause challenges.

If you have already updated before importing, then don't update
further. As for everyone else support told me to wait until they
give the go ahead.

I'm not sure whether support will do the updates across the board
or we will do them ourselves with the WP Automatic Upgrade plugin.

Meanwhile don't upgrade.

We are working on making WordPressDirect compatible with the new WordPress update. If you upgrade before the two services are ready for each other, they won't continue to function properly. The main difference between the two versions is that the latest version has a security option enabled by default whereas the current version does not. However, WPD is already providing some of the security that comes with the update. If there is a specific functionality in the update that interests you, you can submit a ticket to the Help Desk. The adsense plug-in we use is from a third party and he has not made it compatible with the updated WP version. We are in the process of creating our own and it should be done soon.

Are we ok to update our WP yet?

If not - I'm not using adsense at the moment, so would that mean it's ok for me to update?

I've been reading great things about the updated version on the 30dc FF room.

This could still cause you problems.
However, why not set up a Wordpress stie using the upgraded version, 2.7?
Then you could at least familiarize yourself with it.
I have used it and it is really different. Takes some getting used to.

Thanks for the tip Admin. I assume you will create a sticky post when it's ok for us to upgrade?

See Isha, that is why having you moderate here would be such a valueable addition. You are a strong organizer. You remember the details.

Hee hee, you don't catch me like that. :D You should see my flat (apartment) - it permanently looks like it's just been turned over by a very messy posse of teenagers. I often go out wearing a pair of glasses that has one arm missing, because I can't see where I've put my other pair.

I was reminded of the updating question by a thread I was reading in the 30dc FriendFeed room:

I haven't done this yet, because frankly I don't know how to do it without ending up with a mess on my hands. See these threads here:

They terrify me. I'm already spending a lot more time than I can afford on software problems.
