Okay. Here goes...

I wanted to rearrange my sidebar and get rid of some things that were duplicated. In wp-admin I went into appearance tab and selected edit then I went over and scrolled over and chose the sidebar template. I have the soloss template so I wanted to get rid of 3 of the 6 ad blocks and then move the search box under the rss feed bar.

before I removed it, I copied it to notepad so I would have what I would move. I could see clearly in the code where the 6 ads were so I removed 3 and moved the search bar right under the rss feed bar. ALL DONE SUCCESSFULLY... WHEW... There was jumping and clapping involved!!!! :p

Then I decided to get rid of the extra "Search" field now because (remember I copied and pasted what I wanted to move) then I said "Oh, I'll just get rid of that little bar too" (a tag bar i believe) because that is a duplicate as well. I did copy and paste again into note pad... I removed it and hit update... I clicked back on my site...This time there was no dancing or clapping involved... THE SIDE BAR IS COMPLETELY GONE!!!!

I tried pasting back in what I think I took out and to no avail.... I must have taken out something really special :o I played with it a bit but big, big boo-boo

Could I just reinstall the template and start again...

Is there an undo button... I know I'm grasping here

Anyone want to have a stab at it????

Thanks all.
Vicki

Hi Vicki,

You can certainly just reinstall the template.
That will upload a fresh version of all the template files resetting any changes you made. Just go find the Soloss theme and click "Change Existing Theme"

You may have more luck changing your widgets instead of trying to edit sidebar.php file. If the second search bar is being kept in a widget, you can disable it by clicking Appearance >> Widgets
This theme has two sidebars, so you may have to switch the dropdown menu between Left-Sidebar and Right-Sidebar

Thanks. I will give it a try.

The first step you took can be repeated.
Do go into widgets to remove the extra search widget.
In fact, you may remove any duplicated widgets there.
Some are coded into the theme and then also active on the widgets section.
Way easier to click edit>>remove.

You will have to
a. add the code to add the second sidebar and then adjust the spacing, padding, etc. for the widths of the content area and the sidebar areas.
b. (a much easier solution) change themes to find one that has the layout that you desire
c. purchase a premium theme that allows layout adjustments (PM me for any needed details)
