When using the eZine Poster application in WordPress Direct, I'm not sure how to handle duplicate content. The software grabs articles from the eZine Articles directory based on specific keywords and then we have the option to post those articles on our blog. That's great, but isn't this bad from a Google/SEO viewpoint as we're actually duplicating original content this way? Or am I missing something here :)

As long as you give the proper attribution to the author the articles are encouraged to be used on your blog. For the ezine poster, the following terms apply:

You must not remove "Article Source: www.ArticlesBase.com" from any article that you choose to publish.
You must respect the copyright of each author whose articles you wish to publish. This includes but is not limited to 1. Resource Box, 2. Any links provided by the author.
You must not change, edit, or reword any part of any article not written by you.
You must agree to keep hyperlinks "live" so that users can click on said link and be taken to its destination.

A good way to present these posts is to add another title above the article that says something to the effect of "Here is a great article about [subject]" or "I really like this article because ...."

Thanks for the clarification.

Will I be able to add my hyperlinks to the article for the specific keywords I'm targeting?

You can add hyperlinks to any existing words in the article.

But, this doesn't answer if it is the duplicate content in google's view.

This is Googles view on duplicate content:

I understand the duplicate content not being a penalty of sorts, but would using the auto post software be 'only' for human benefit ie content to read and benefit from?If the dup content(while not penalizing per say)isnt being read by google it will have no help to search engine ranking/indexing correct?

That is my question too.. I'm interested but if all the posts are duplicate content, google wont rate the blog very high. Someone told me that its kind of like caffeinated content where it re-arranges articles and such. However I dont see anywhere on the site that it does that..

nah, it's not really considered duplicate content.
think about how you can post a video from YouTube on your site.
in fact, that one video could be on hundreds of sites if it's viral or very popular.

there's a difference.

Hi,

My understanding is that Google will be unhappy about duplicate content that it finds on the same site, but not on different sites. So this takes care of using derived contents from other sites such as EzineArticles, etc.

This raises the question for me does Google consider different domains on the same IP, as happens in shared hosting, the "same" site.

Any clarifications will be appreciated because I use shared hosting and have some content overlap across a couple of domains.

Best regards,

Gren. Bingham
