View Full Version : How do I removing a dud page or post?

I made a mistake and changed the title of a post, which changed the url (it was before I realised that you have to take action for the url not to change). I had already socially bookmarked it and now there are Propellor and Digg pages out there recommending everyone to go to that webpage, and also the dud url itself is ranking. In fact all three are - not quite what I was aiming for!

Let's say that the webpage url associated to the Propellor and Digg pages is:

greatwidgets.com/greee-widget

and in fact the correct url where the post is, is now:

greatwidgets.com/green-widget

Well unfortunately if you follow the Propellor or Digg or search result links you still get the greatwidgets.com/greee-widget webpage on my domain, but it's empty except for my theme, webpage title and the ad in the side-bar. Anyone any idea how I can delete this page, or if that's impossible to replace it with a redirect? It's not listed anywhere in my wp-admin or in my WPD panel.

Edit: it gets worse: I seem to have made a similar boo-boo with another post as well. Ugh. I've undugg and unstumbled and undelicoused them but there doesn't seem to be a way to unpropel stuff...

there are plugins out there that will do this for you.
some of them will search for the closest similar page on your site.
eventually the page will disappear.
just put a new one up on propeller

You mean I can get a plug-in that will help people get to the correct page on my site?

You can search plug-ins here. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/
You might check back before installing it.

I mean what sort of plug-in am I looking for? I can't make a search on a plug-in site until I know what it does? I don't even know the jargon words for what I described in my first post.

:o

Try searching for "404 errors"
or "redirects"
or "permalinks"

here's one:
