Hi everyone.
You may be faced with this challenge at some point, especially if you import a blog into WordPress Direct and you have used a permalink structure other than the recommended /%category%/%postname%
I had a big challenge with it earlier and submitted a support ticket.
We thought it was sorted until the redirection broke down later.
I've copied the important parts of the support post in here:
I am having a problem with my Permalinks.
I am using Custom: /%postname% and wish to change to /%category%/%postname%
Deans Permalink Migration plugin is also installed. When I change and save the new permalink structure in my Admin Dashboard, I find that if I click on a post it is not found and I have to return to the former settings of /%postname%.
Following a suggestion on WP.org that this might be because of MS Frontpage I checked the _vti_bin folder and found that all 3 ht.access files had the line Options +FollowSymlinks included.
However the root ht.access didn't so I added it as instructed.
That file now reads:
# -FrontPage-
Options +FollowSymlinks
IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti*
but it hasn't made any difference.
I've also tried simply disabling the Dean's Permalinks plugin, but that doesn't
seem to be an issue either.
I don't use MS Frontpage, so I'm not worried if the fix is to delete the _vti_bin folder,
but I don't wish to experiment :)
Thanks!
Regards,
Mark

I'm pleased to say I have got to the bottom of this problem.
Apparently everything I did above is the correct solution,
with the exception -
After disabling Dean's Migration Plugin and before changing the
Permalink structure I didn't log off and log back in again.
(This for me appeared to make the difference as with a second site
everything went smoothly this time around).
then
change the Permalink structure and reactive Dean's plugin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Further to all this - The Permalink redirect broke down a short time ago
and all the old bookmarks with the old structure were busted.
I have since found out that Dean's Permalink plugin doesn't work properly
and there is a bug issue with it. Don't use it
however
This plugin does work and again you just enter the old permalink structure
in the box and 'save' the update under settings.

Mark,
You were so close! I fixed your problem by disabling Dean's Permalinks plugin first and then changing the permalink structure. When it started working, I took a chance by reactivating Dean's plugin and everything is now agreeing and working together.
I was a little concerned that the plugins were clashing with your WordPress version 2.6.2, which is a very common problem. We normally discourage people from updating to 2.6 especially since it's a relatively minor update anyway. But it looks like your site is functioning. Some of the 3rd party plugins we use are not compatible with 2.6. In the near future we will be replacing the 3rd party plugins with our own so this will not be an issue.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Thanks,
The WordPressDirect Team

Thank you ever so much.
Funny. I tried that myself but the post links were still broken. It wouldn't work for me.
I tried it with IE as I use Flock - same result, no joy.
Unfortunately I was already updated to 2.6.2 before I imported. My other WPD
sites are not and are still as installed.
I have the other site to do as well at Healthy Foods (www.healthyfoodsandeatinghealthy.com) so
if I experience the same problem, I may well be back to ask you to do it for me.
It might be simply be something not 100% with my computer.
Thanks again.
