View Full Version : Where's my post gone?! Aaargh!

I spent a long time putting a post together. I have the text of it saved off on my computer, but arranging it all on the page together with all my affiliate links, photos, bold, underlines etc was created on the WPD interface.
I clicked on "Save Post", and I was instantly taken to my WPD panel.php, but when I clicked on Manage Posts the new post wasn't listed there.
I also tried to find it using the WP-admin route, and it wasn't there either. It's also not on my website when I type in the site url.
Can someone please tell me where my post is *please* *please* *pretty please*.
PS If I try and recreate the post, I assume the same could (and probably will) happen again. So now I'm angry as well as confused. Can't create posts! What else is a blog for?!!

I've now had a reply to my ticket from WPD support. And let this be a warning to all of us:
Apparently, without being told or warned by the software, I was timed-out.
And thus when I clicked on "Save post" my post just disappeared: pwhuff! (Not their words - mine).
Now I had done the sensible thing, and written my post beforehand. What took a long time was messing about with complicated affiliate links, bolding, underlining, centering, putting in photos etc.
And this can be quite complicated. So yes it took a long time.
But the software isn't programmed to warn us to save the post before it times out. And I've never seen a guide as to how long, either.
I'm sure readers of this post will have limited sympathy with my situation, because we recently had warnings from the very helpful Mr Roy IMStrong and Themelis Cuiper on this point, and lo I even contributed to that thread!

I want to make several additional points here:
1. I hope that the description of what happened (in my original post) is a guide for anyone else who clicks on "Save post" and finds themselves in Aaaaargh-land.
2. Even if you've written the post up before-hand, remember that messin about with complicated affiliate links (and yes, they *were* complicated) and photos and stuff takes time, and so before startin at that WPD "Write post" interface, get a clock or your phone and set an alarm to go off every 5 minutes or sump'n to remind you to keep savin the post.
3. A nice person called Ginger has give me the tip on the 30 day challenge FriendFeed room to use a thingymijig called Scribefire. I gather it's a Flock/Firefox add-on that you can use that does all the same things that the WPD interface does, and then you can just lift your post n put it into the WPD or SP interface.
Now the ridiculous thing is that I already have this add-on, but with the heavy learning load I bin having wasn't aware of its full purpose. Now the chances are that I'm not the most absolutest totally most stupid person in the world, so there could be other peeps out there who haven't been usin scribefire either. Warnin to all: use it.
Now, my last point (I think) is this:
What's with all this mish-mash of dialects and language I'm writin these days, eh, wotcha? I've bin canoodlin with so many peeps from around ze world that I dunno wevver I's in my flat in lil ole London town or upsid-down in Ozzieland or wot.

Isha,
I hope everyone realizes the true value of your mistakes.
As far as I'm concerned, you have so much trouble because you try so many things the rest of us are scared to try, well, not me, I'm like you.
Your little pwhuff! just saved the rest of us an immense amount of time.
Thanks to you, and Ginger, we now know we can use SrcibeFire to create posts like we want them, without timing out.
Of course, WordPressDirect is only days away from releasing a plugin that will allow you to create, store, and release your content at prescribed times.
By the way, you open the Flock Blog writer with the little Feather Pen icon seen here: http://screencast.com/t/nOxVwbpYMi

The post editor in wp-admin is more advanced.
It will save your post every 30 seconds or so...
You can even log out and come back to it later

Thanks Ebenezer and IMStrong. There's a great blog post and comments on using the Flock blog writer facility, here:

I did exactly the same thing only I didn't have my copy saved else where!
When I start to type a new post title the title of the post I lost is selectable from the drop down menu/ auto complete/ predictive thing box.
Is there really no way to save my post from the time out black hole!

If you time out in WordPressDirect, you will lose your post. The functionality to save being spoken of in this thread is by using a blog editor built into the Flock or FireFox browsers.
You can also write and save posts from within wp-admin for your site.
WordPressDirect is working on bringing this functionality inside the WPD dashboard. It is nearly done.
