You may now go to Website Settings, scroll down, click Advanced Settings. There is a button there to automatically update your version of Wordpress.
It will say:
You upgrade has been initiated and will take 3-10 minutes depending on the current server load. For fastest results, please run only one upgrade process at a time. To confirm the upgrade process has been completed, log in to your wp-admin. You may exit this page or close this browser window while the upgrade process runs.

And it's now 100% safe to do this? I know some users of WordPress Direct had horrid problems when they upgraded a few weeks back and had to downgrade again.

We did not have the feature in WPD a few weeks ago. So how they may have incorrectly upgraded is not relevant to this feature.
I have used it on my sites with no problems at all.

I tried to upgrade several times and nothing happens. Any known issues or explanations?

Ron,
How did you try to upgrade?
Through WPD or through wp-admin?

Also, what version does wp-admin show right now?

I tried to upgrade using the WPD upgrade tool. The tool indicated that the upgrade would take 3-10 minutes depending on server load. I attempted to do the upgrade twice, in 12 hour intervals in case the server was experiencing a heavy load.

I just attempted again, here's the message currently displaying "You have the following version of wordpress installed 2.5.1. You can upgrade your wordpress site to this latest version : 2.7."

I only ran it on one of the sites, per the instructions. BTW, the last attempt also appears to be unsuccessful. I attempted the upgrade on the 1st site listed in my account because it has no content, so feel free to tinker with it if you'd like as it is not a live site. Thanks.

Hi Ron,
This one needs to be filed as a support ticket. I would need to log into wp-admin for the site.

Do you have specific "guidelines" that would inhibit a user of your site automatically upgrading when in their wp-admin?
To be more clear, is it not advised to upgrade from within wp-admin?

I have not to date had specific instructions of any sort from WPD that I should not do tweeking and upgrading from within my wp-admin.

This question and concern is very genuine.

I am a platinum user and currently have 40 sites.

I have just recently hired additional team member to handle the technical issues for my sites.

Would appreciate detailed reply with regard to restrictions/or suggested "do nots" from WPD team as soon as possible please.

Sincerely,
Tanya Chadwick

Hi Tanya,
I have emailed the support staff for a more comprehensive answer.
In the meanwhile, my understanding is that the process is automated within WPD. Just do the sites one at a time, giving adequate time for the process to finish. 10 minutes or so.
Upgrading from wp-admin is also an option. One would be prompted with instructions as to how it is done by clicking the link.
In either event, I would disable all plugins first.

Hi Tanya,

WPDirect customers are encouraged to upgrade their WordPress installation via the Website Settings interface. This is the best way to make sure you are using a supported version.

Although you are welcome to upgrade through the wp-admin control panel, we cannot guarantee that there will not be any issues that arise from such actions. We cannot be held responsible for any errors that occur if you upgrade too quickly or install an incompatible plugin.

After I hit upgrade, the message stayed the same on the WPD page, indicting that I could upgrade and showing my old WP version but when I checked WP admin, it indicated the upgraded WP version.
